You could search and find these same lodging options on your own and try to get it reimbursed with your travel voucher, but it’s a complicated process and after you went through that work and saved the government money, you’d have nothing on your end of the travel reimbursement to show for it. How it works
Staying alone or with another member in TDY status, in non-traditional lodging options such as Corporate lodging, leased rental units and Air BnBs/Home Rentals provides economies of scale. The government has not adapted to these opportunities for dynamic efficiency. Uncle Sam’s Bunks will help you do it – putting money in your pocket and helping reduce government spending. We target nightly rates of $95 OR LESS, flat, no taxes. Lodging per diem rates around the nation are $106 per night or higher, plus taxes. To get a hotel, before taxes, cheaper than our flat $95 per night ceiling the nightly rate would have to be less than $81 per night. At that rate you probably aren’t staying in a great hotel with dated décor, undesirable area, and/or no amenities around.
With the units we rent you often get recently updated or unique interior home designs, your own kitchen and more of the normal amenities of being at home. Uncle Sam’s Bunks uses a proprietary means to check security of locations and quality of lodging and provides options for cancellations not available to individuals. The Department of Defense tried using flat rate per diem, an attempt to tap into these opportunities, but backed off on it due to structural complexity. Uncle Sam’s Bunks operates on a smaller, flexible, non-bureaucratic scale…if we can find a way to save money over traditional lodging options, while providing high quality safe billeting for your travel needs, we’ll do it!
Target Savings
10% lodging cost rebate to single member occupancy, that is up to $286 for a 30 day stay!
20% lodging cost rebate each to dual member occupancy, that is up to $572 for 30 day stay
30% lodging cost rebate each for 3+ people, that is up to $858 per month!
25% daily savings to the government compared to full per diem rate (10% daily per diem rate + 8% Innkeeper tax + 7% sales tax savings).
Rebate mailed to your billing address via a VISA gift card at the end of your stay. Visa gift card will be based on occupancy rebate and daily lodging rate.You can use your gift card anywhere that accepts Visa.

Want to lodge with Family or Friends who live in the TDY area?
If you stay with family or friends directly DTS will not provide you any reimbursement for that stay without proof of billing. Uncle Sam’s role in these bookings is to provide that invoice for reimbursement and billing. All that shampoo, soap and water you use while staying with Mom and Pop isn’t free, show them some love with a rebate card by booking your stay through Uncle Sam’s Bunks.
